Soldiers Reportedly Open Fire On Borno Governor’s Convoy In Error
Pandemonium ensued on Monday evening after soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State opened fire on Governor Kashim Shettima‘s envoy in error.
Punch reports that the governor’s protocol office is being held accountable for the incident, as they reportedly failed to inform military authorities about the governor’s intention to visit the military facilities.
However, the state Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Bulama, described the gunshots as “friendly.”
“It was not an attack on the governor. It was a friendly gunshot that was not directed at Gov. Shettima nor his convoy. The shots were fired into the air by soldiers who were hailing the governor for saluting their effort in repelling the insurgents.”
Sources say the governor was unharmed.
