News: Police nab tenant for assaulting neighbour
The police have arrested a tenant on Fasha Street in the Iju area of Lagos for allegedly assaulting his neighbour, one Caleb Adebanbo.
Scuffle reportedly ensued between the 62-year-old man and the suspect, one Moses Timothy, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, after the former wanted to collect rainwater...
It was learnt that the elderly man met 34-year-old Timothy at the passage when he (Adebanbo) was on his way to arrange some buckets in the rain.
Timothy was said to have accused the man of pushing him.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Adebanbo apologised, claiming the contact was unintentional.
However, the suspect reportedly slapped the man.
Not done, he allegedly hit the complainant with an iron chair.
The police brought Timothy before the magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Olayinka, on two counts bordering on assault.
The charges read in part, “That you Moses Timothy, 34, on November 5, 2014, at about 7.15am on Fasha Street, Iju, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Caleb Adebanbo by hitting him with an iron chair on his left cheek which caused him bodily harm and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
His defence counsel, A.O. Badejo, appealed to the court that his client be admitted to bail in the most liberal terms.
Olayinka granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till January 20, 2015.
